Immortality


I'm sure you've heard of those salamanders that can regenerate their tails if the tail gets cut-off. They do so through a process called transdifferentiation, where cells can transform into other kinds of cells and hence, rebuild a body part (the tail, in this case).

Well, here's a jellyfish, that can do that to it's entire body.

The Turritopsis nutricula, pictured above, can return to it's sexually immature state (polyp) when it reaches sexual maturity. It's the only known living creature that can do this. It's immortal.

These creatures are found all over the globe today, near the tropical regions and scientists are currently studying it to try and find out how it halts the aging process. Clearly, this creature has a beginning but no end.

The Wachowski brothers have nothing on me.
